December 22nd, challenging but successful

Capt. Aaron and crew Wesley took 4 clients out for limits of good grade rockfish, 2 lingcod and crew limits of jumbo crab. The sea was confused when we left in the morning. There was a south swell, a northwest swell and east wind chop from a stiff east wind. We made our way south to drop the pots near the fishing grounds. The wind shifted to the south but remained cold and strong all morning. We started throwing 8” swim baits but quickly switched over to dead fall jigs as the rockfish proved agressive. Then the north current picked up and our mid day fishing took a turn for the worse. We made a move several miles north where after several hours of trying we finally found a few fish on the chew. The wind finally started to come down as we pulled our traps. They were absolutely stuffed with big holiday crabs. The tough crew stuck it out all day for an excellent holiday bag of fish and crabs.

There are just a few spots at the end of the season. Monday the 27th has 2 open spots and Tuesday the 28th has just 1 spot. If you want a shot at some rockfish and lingcod before the close of the season give Capt. Aaron a call at (707)971-0847 or book online at svamarinecharters.com
